All Meat Dog Food Brands

I’ve recently spoken to several different people, all in different professional roles, about their take on different dog foods on the market today.

Do we go by commercials, listen to a vet or breeder, or do we simply do our own research and come away with what best suits our needs?

Of course, I got a slew of different answers, all of them pretty much across the board.

However, someone said something that got me thinking and I had to do some research.

Hopefully it will help you out in your quest for the best as well.

What this person said to me was this: dogs are omnivores, and as such, need to derive their nutrition from various blends of meat, veggies, fruits, grains and so forth. We hear a lot these days about foods that are “grain free” and “organic” or “natural” and as it turns out, it’s good to keep those in mind.

There are some great ones out there.

A lot of the dog and puppy foods on the market today, especially those that are bargain priced or just plain cheap, are primarily fillers, by-products and grains.

Corn to be exact.

A great deal of the makers of the cheap dog food has corn listed in first place in the ingredient list on the package.

Many times, again in those cheaper dog food brands, the meat that they do put in their food comes in the form of organ meats – which do have their place, to be honest – , meat-meal and by-products.

So What Do We Do?

If you’re concerned that you might not be getting enough meat into your pet’s diet, there are a few things you can do.

First and foremost, read dog food labels.

There are laws in place that state those labels have to be accurate and the first item on the list is the biggest portion of the food.

For some people, a certain amount of corn or grain is fine.

Some supplement with other things, and personal choice comes into play. Then there are those that opt for the dog food with labels like holistic, natural and/or organic. Those foods have higher standards laid out for them, to be able to use labels like that.

But some want to do everything in their power to ensure that their dogs nutritional needs are met, not only percentage-wise, but also to the best of their ability to choose the best, most natural ingredients available.

We’ve Done the Hard Work For You…

Today, we look at some “all meat” dog food varieties. Among the list are also a couple of “primarily meat” foods because there are some good ones out there that are mostly meat, but also add some other proteins into the mix as well.

Something else to think about is the fact that you don’t want to feed your dog all meat all the time.

As we talked about earlier, a dog’s nutritional needs are a lot like ours in that they are omnivores and therefore need plants and vegetables as well.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to feed these all meat varieties in addition to or mixed with other high quality foods.

1. Evangers Grain Free All Natural Dog Food

The first food we’re going to take a look at is Evangers Grain Free All Natural Dog/Cat Food.

Interestingly, this line can be fed to either dogs or cats.

Because it is 100% meat, there is nothing in the ingredients that is better suited for one or the other.

It is made in the USA and, as stated, grain free, all natural with no preservatives or fillers.

Available meats at this time are chicken, duck, buffalo, beef, wild salmon and rabbit.

Evanger’s website also states that these all-meat formulas are good for pets with food sensitivities.

The Evanger’s company has been in business since 1935 and making all meat products since then, originally for their prize winning Great Danes.

They are the only family-owned and operated pet food cannery in the United States and they have never had a recall against any of their products.

2. Wysong Epigen Formula

Next is Wysong Epigen Canine/Feline/Ferret canned formula. Again, since the food is all meat, either animal can utilize it.

Wysong is 100% all-natural, starch free and made in the USA. It contains no grain, fillers or artificial anything.

Their flavors include beef, chicken, turkey, rabbit, duck and salmon and, featuring 10% crude protein, are a great combination with any of the different Wysong dry kibble formulas.

As a family company that began in 1979 under the leadership of Dr. Wysong, this company prides itself in being one of the first of its kind.

Wysong leads the way with a devout desire to educate people about the importance of their pet’s nutritional needs, as well as providing the natural, holistic food with which to do it.

They also provide pet food supplements.

3. Wellness Natural Grain Free Wet Canned Dog Food

Wellness Natural Grain Free wet canned dog food is another strictly meat dog food with no meat by products, wheat, corn, soy, artificial preservatives, colors or flavors.

It is cooked in the can, the same way our own foods are canned and sealed and comes in the flavors of beef, salmon, lamb, chicken, turkey and venison.

There is a “Wellness Guarantee” printed right on the can that states if, for any reason, you or your pet are not completely satisfied with the purchased product, they will gladly refund or exchange your item.

4. Canine Caviar Holistic Gourmet Turkey Formula

Canine Caviar Holistic Gourmet Turkey Formula canned food is a “super premium all meat diet” with no grains, fillers, added sugar or salt, artificial colors or preservatives.

It is nutritionally balanced and meant to be a supplement to a normal regimen of dry dog kibble.

Other flavors include duck, venison and buffalo.

The president and CEO of Canine Caviar came up with idea for the company more than 20 years ago while working at a pharmaceutical company.

He came up with this line of food due to allergies his own Great Dane was having, and by the time his pet died, it was the second oldest Great Dane in history, at 17 years of age.

In closing:

These are four of the best reviewed and most sought after all meat dog food brands on the market.

However, as with all of these, remember that they are meant as supplements – toppers or mixers – for regular dry kibble or to enhance the appetites of finicky eaters.

Just as you wouldn’t feed your dog solely vegetables or fruits, neither do you want to feed all meat.

It will not meet the nutritional needs of your pet like a well-rounded nutritional diet will.

These formulas are all good for dogs with allergies, as they are all single source protein ingredients and very easily digestible.

Used as toppers or mixers with other dry kibble, many customers report that their pets have increased energy, a shinier coat, and healthier stool.

Across the board, for finicky dogs and dog owners alike, an all meat choice is the right choice.

Have you found another all meat dog food that didn’t make this list? Please let us know, and be sure to tell us why you picked it.
